Dr. Dwight Perry, known and appreciated for his straight-talk approach to ministry, oversees the Great Lakes district with pastoral care and dynamic leadership. Prior to coming to the Great Lakes Baptist Conference, Dr. Perry served as a professor of pastoral studies at the Moody Bible Institute, as a denominational executive with the Baptist General Conference and as a senior pastor and associate pastor in several churches in Illinois.
He is the first African American to graduate with an earned PhD from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, IL. He has published extensively in the area of practical theology and has just finished his yet to be released book on homiletics: Preach It! This book, when released, will set a new standard for those who are engaged in the blessed art of proclaiming God's Word to God's people. He is the author of Breaking Down Barriers: A Black Evangelical Explains the Black Church. His newest release Building Unity in the Church in the New Millennium (Moody Press) focuses on discrimination in the evangelical church in the areas of race, class, gender, age and physical disabilities and is a landmark book in the area of practical theology.
Dr. Perry and his wife Cynthia, the parents of four children, live in Madison, WI with their youngest daughter.
